Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, using an Internet connection. The game rules are very simple and involve the player trying to get the greatest mixture of cards as you can in order to come away with money. On this account it is much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the interaction with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Electronic Poker game also has hold buttons, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the player has selected which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be dealt if desired. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most beneficial machine every time.
After the first round has played out, the player can either decide to remain on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that has been won. Additionally, some styles of the game allow the bettor an opportunity to increase their profits, in which situation a further round is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
